Protein detail:
Protein name | Thymidine Kinase |
Uniprot protein ID | P09250 |
Protein length | 341 amino acids |
Protein description | Thymidine kinase catalyzes the transfer of the gamma-phospho group of ATP to thymidine to generate dTMP in the salvage pathway of pyrimidine synthesis. The dTMP serves as a substrate for DNA polymerase during viral DNA replication. Allows the virus to be reactivated and to grow in non-proliferative cells lacking a high concentration of phosphorylated nucleic acid precursors. |

Title | Genetic polymorphism of thymidine kinase (TK) and DNA polymerase (pol) of clinical varicella-zoster virus (VZV) isolates collected over three decades |
Author | Anja Hoffmanna,Kristin Döringa,Natalja Tatjana Seegera,Martina Buhlera,Michael Schackea |
Evidence | In the TK, four isolates (one: varicella, three: zoster) harbored the substitutions S51L, N119D, K186R, and V194A resulting in a mutagenesis rate of 2.4% and a rate of 0.024 substitutions per strain. |
